About me
Karen Bornarth has been a member of the Bread Bakers Guild for more than 20 years and has served as Executive Director since 2022. A lifelong bread baker and educator, she began her career at Amy’s Bread, where she rose from packer to supervisor while teaching part-time at the Artisan Baking Center.
She later spent five years as lead instructor and coordinator of the bread department at the French Culinary Institute, where she refined curriculum and developed new classes for both professional and home bakers. Karen also led the demonstration bakery at Le Pain Quotidien’s Bleecker Street location before moving into product development, quality control, and national training. Following Le Pain Quotidien, she worked for Hot Bread Kitchen in workforce and small business development, supporting women in NYC to build careers and businesses in food.
Across decades in New York City’s baking community, Karen has remained deeply committed to craft education, baker development, and helping the next generation of bakers and bakery owners build both skill and confidence.
